The Centre for Knowledge Development and Transfer is an organisational unit of the University of Primorska (UP), operating under the auspices of the Faculty of Management. We want to be a link for cooperation between UP researchers and companies and other organisations in the local, national and wider international area.
Our mission is to promote the commercialisation of university knowledge, to establish research and development collaborations and to find the right knowledge and research infrastructure.
We support UP researchers and students in the development of their ideas and the protection of their inventions, and we are also a point of contact for companies seeking opportunities for technological, project and other collaborations with the University.
The Centre manages the formal procedures for the acquisition of service inventions and ensures that they or other forms of university knowledge are properly protected by law. In this way, we aim to protect knowledge and ensure the competitiveness of the university in the wider environment.
The Centre works to market and commercialise the intellectual property generated under the auspices of the University. Only through the successful transfer and commercialisation of knowledge and inventions into the environment will they achieve their purpose. We are therefore actively seeking suitable companies that are interested in our inventions and knowledge and will be able to exploit them in the marketplace, thereby adding value to their products or services.
The Centre encourages bright and entrepreneurial researchers to pursue the path of entrepreneurship and to set up spin-off companies. This makes sense especially when the results of their research are either new services or products that are new to the market, something that the market does not yet offer, and when they want to develop the product or service further within their own company.
